Hip Hop and Break Dance
Originally from Santa Cruz, California, Ryan began performing at the age of 8 in local theater companies which eventually led him to the dance studio where he trained in all styles of dance but fell in love with Hip Hop. Ryan began studying with the legendary Gary Kendell (Jabbawockeez) when he was 13 years old and continued to train/work with him of the next 12 years. His education with Gary taught him to blend and work with foundational hip hop styles such as popping, bboying and locking. Ryan is a former five year cast member of 2 international touring shows, “Monster Shop Bump’n” and “Break Shop”. In 2007 he teamed up with his GEE FAM brothers, David Bortnick and Joe Gray, to create the national show the “InnerACTIONS Project” for which he was Artistic Director/Choreographer. Ryan’s credits include: Disney’s “That’s So Raven”, Billy Blanks, Redbull, “A MidSummer Nightmare”, San Francisco International Hip Hop Festival, ARTown, various music videos, commercials and corporate events. Ryan is a founding member of the GEE FAM dance community/dance convention, the director of two Lake Tahoe, CA based crews, “Quality Control” and “Floor Mechanics” and with his wife, co-owns Truckee Dance Factory. Ryan is committed to sharing the gift of dance and working with those passionate to learn and create in the hip-hop medium.
